About the role
InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town is looking for Bartenders to join Le Bistro de Jan (LBDJ). The role involves preparing and serving beverages to a high standard while creating welcoming and memorable guest experiences.
Key responsibilities
Bar preparation
• Prepare the work area and mise-en-place before service.
• Check the bar display, equipment and surrounding areas.
• Stock the bar for service.
• Maintain cleanliness of the assigned station.
Service
• Stay up to date with beverage products, trends and drink preparation methods.
• Follow Food & Beverage standard operating procedures.
• Take guest orders accurately and enter them into the system.
• Explain beverage options and make recommendations.
• Prepare and present drinks according to guest orders and outlet standards.
• Respond to guest requests professionally.
• Clear glasses after service.
• Provide guest billing and complete cash-ups.
• Complete beverage stock sheets each shift.
• Promote suitable promotional items through upselling.
Standards and compliance
• Follow F&B operating procedures.
• Comply with health, safety, hygiene and environmental requirements.
• Use and store equipment safely and correctly.
• Participate in stock takes.
• Complete daily counts of bar smalls.
• Report stock or operational discrepancies.
• Report breakages at the end of each shift.
Guest service
• Welcome guests warmly and professionally.
• Provide attentive and respectful service.
• Understand guest preferences where possible.
• Explain facilities, products, reward programmes and current promotions.
• Handle guest complaints, requests and suggestions, escalating where necessary.
Requirements
• Grade 12 preferred.
• 2 years’ previous experience as a bartender.
• Ability to work shifts according to operational requirements.
• Physically able to move operating equipment.
• Willingness to perform similar functions in alternative outlets when operationally required.
